Fenix TK45 Flashlight

August 10th, 2010

Just got back from my fishing trip at Corbett Lake in Merritt where I got a chance to play a little with the TK45. I always wondered why people spent alot of money on flashlights and now I know why.

In the woods where its pitch dark this TK45 is superbright. In the dark we were able to spot our boat at about 150 feet away and shining into the woods brightens up a large area which helps for ‘chickens’ like me who aren’t particularly fond of dark places. I tested the settings trying to spot pine cones on a tree branch that was about 20-30 feet away and all except the lowest setting were great.

Last year, our bathroom in our cabin was not functioning and we had to walk to another cabin about 200-300 yards away if we had to go at night. I wish I had this flashlight then. This flashlight if shined in someones eyes is blinding so it could be used as defence as well.  Moving about the log cabin in pitch dark was easy on the lowest setting which only uses one of the three leds.  I also brought a Maglite up there that uses 3 – D size batteries and it was not comparable at all.

I can now see the value in a flashlight like this that is valued at around $170CDN.   I don’t think I would recommend this for the common household though as I think there are less expensive options for this purpose.  The major drawbacks are the initial cost as well as it takes 8AA batteries.  The positives are its four brightness settings as well as its three flashing modes make it very useful. It seems well constructed and worked well with rechargeable AA’s as well.

For anyone who wants a serious flashlight this is one to consider. Its perfect for outdoorsy people and people who work in dark places such as engineers.  If I were one of these people or just on the road alot or exposed to any situations where I might need to signal for help I would definitely consider one.

$170 + tax plus approximately another $6-10 in batteries (8 in and 8 for backup) is alot to spend for occasional use but if it could save my life than it’s not a high price to pay.

That’s my two cents…..

Fenix Flashlights and Vancouver Battery

August 4th, 2010

Vancouver Battery Corp. is now carrying the Fenix Flashlights. I am pretty stoked about them and the local rep just told me that the Calgary Police Detachment has just started to use them. I am big on bringing in proven product and am looking forward to playing with these. I welcome any comments both positive and negative on Fenix.

I’ve had them in the store for two weeks and have already sold a few. We’ve already sold a few TK45′s at the $170 CDN pricetag. Its a totally new market for me but I am excited to learn about flashlights.

More to come…..

Lenmar – BCUNI3 continued

July 13th, 2010

Just got back from week long trip in La Quinta, CA and took the BCUNI3 with me.  I have to say that I like it alot over the original BCUNI.  The pins are much more robust, the display is much more informative and I really really like that it has USB out.  I was able to charge the battery for my Fuji camera, Blackberry phone as well as my Itouch.  You just have to make sure you have the right USB cables and you are good to go.

Although I didn’t need to use them on this trip the BCUNI3 can also charge 2 Nimh AA or AAA batteries.  It would be nice to be able to charge four at a time but it charges them relatively fast (in a couple of hours) and the BCUNI3 is a nice compact size.

I really like this charger and it is my favorite travel charger.  I don’t have any complaints about it and would highly recommend it.

Lenmar – BCUNI3 All In One Battery Charger

June 6th, 2010

The new BCUNI3 battery charger just arrived. I have been anxious for this as I loved the original BCUNI charger because it could charge most camera and cel phone batteries as well as 2 AA/AAA nimh batteries. The only thing that I thought was lacking was a USB connection to charge my Blackberry and iPod. My wishes were answered and the BCUNI3 now has that too!

I am playing with it now and will publish my likes and dislikes on it in a few days.  So far it looks promising….

Annsmann coming soon hopefully

May 21st, 2010

Our next product that we hopefully will be bringing in will be Annsmann.  They have a solid reputation and a good line up of chargers and batteries that have a pretty good following.  From reading and reviewing what I could online I have a feeling that they could rival the MAHA Powerex products.  Any of you heard anything?

Thanks

Danny

Maha 2700mA AA still tops

June 9th, 2009

So far I have tested Sanyo, Duracell, Energizer, GP, Annsman and Powerex on the MH-C9000 charger. And after cycling them all over 60 time the Powerex has the highest capacity remaining.

Been selling these for over 7 years with great success. We offer a money back guaranty on all the MAHA products.

Will be putting loads on batteries soon with the CBA II from West Mountain Radio.   I appreciate any input on testing or test equipment.

Thanks,

Danny
